My inspiration for this shell series originated in my fascination with the shells and other treasures that my kids avidly gathered during our beach vacation last summer. Normally, I wouldn’t have invested much thought into these shells–my kids are always collecting little pieces of things. But when I examined them more closely, I noticed the understated, unique beauty of these items that we so often overlook. 

Each shell in this collection is accented with touches of metallic gold watercolor, and they shimmer in the light like their oceanic inspiration. The blue striped watercolor accents on the mats is inspired by the time-honored French matting tradition, which uses soft hand-painted borders to enhance the visual impact of a painting. These paintings would lend a sense of classic, beach-inspired elegance to any space. My hope is that they would continue to spark your own memories of sea, sun, laughter, and shell collecting throughout the year!
