Linda Dunn

I would consider myself a “late bloomer” when it comes to painting, but the desire has been with me since childhood. As an educator I realized that we are all lifelong learners and showing up with desire, consistency and a positive mindset are the keys to learning and growing.

Like many, 2020 gave me pause and reflection, and I decided it was time to end my career in education and pursue retirement. It wasn’t long until I picked up my first paint brush and was hooked!  With no formal experience, I took a few tutorials, watched a lot of videos, and began experimenting with acrylic on canvas, using color, stroke and texture. I found that I gravitated toward a loose interpretive style.

My inspiration began with coastal marshes and continues to be a major influence, although I am just as content painting florals, botanicals, birds, landscapes and others subjects-as I am very much in my learning journey! I have a passion for decorating and appreciate all things with a chinoiserie flair. I have painted many botanicals using chinoiserie bowls and vases, especially the familiar blue and white “Double Happiness” influence.

Painting has given me such a sense of gratitude for the world that God has given us, and I make no apologies for giving Him the credit for the inspiration that is everywhere! It has been wonderful to slow down and view the world from an artist’s point of view where so much can be captured on canvas. I would say that I wish I had begun this art journey sooner, but life has taught me that there is a season for everything.

With a grateful heart, I will continue to gather inspiration from my surroundings and use the paintbrush to put my interpretation on canvas for the foreseeable future.
